Arn: The Kingdom at Road’s End
(2008)
Filmgate is delighted to announce that our work on "Arn: The Kingdom at
Road’s End" has been completed. This is the biggest feature film
project in Scandinavia to date and Filmgate is very proud to have been
selected as the single Scandinavian supplier of the digital visual
effects.
Filmgate worked on sky replacements, crowd multiplication, set
extensions and matte paintings; churches, castles and buildings were
created and extended in 3D, and the end battle (shot in summer) had to
be altered to a winter environment. Also, fires, flags, ships, arrows
and people were added and multiplied in large scale scenes.
In the second and final installment of the Arn saga, based on Jan
Guillou’s trilogy of novels, Arn returns home to unite his people and
bring peace to his country, and to finally wed his Cecilia.
Once Arn is back, he learns that forces are still at work to keep
him separated from his beloved, but thanks to Queen Blanka they can get
married at last. The couple start a home in Forsvik and have another
child, but Arn knows war lures around the corner – it is only a matter
of time until the Sverkers will try to reclaim the throne with help
from the Danes. Thus, Arn begins to build his own army…
The film production is headed by Svensk Filmindustri in conjunction
with Film i Väst, TV4 (Sweden), Danmarks Radio (Denmark), YLE
(Finland), TV 2 (Norway) and Telepool (Germany). With a total budget of
around US$30,000,000 for the whole production, it is the most expensive
production in Scandinavian film history.
