Bröderna Karlsson (The Karlsson Brothers)
(2010)
Bröderna Karlsson is a comedy directed by Kjell Sundvall and produced by
Filmlance. The story centers around two identical twins - both played
by actor Björn Bengtsson - discovering each other for the first time at
age 35. One of them, Nicklas, is a successful lawyer in
Stockholm, living a not so exciting single life dreaming about true
love and having a family life. The other twin, Hasse, is living in the
countryside in the northern part of Sweden with his wife and two
kids. He is the total opposite of Nicklas, charming and a notorious
cheater. Their reunion is bound to be a disaster.
As there was
only one actor for both of these roles, some sort of visual effect was
needed to make the film believable. Filmgate was charged with coming up
with solutions for all scenes involving the two brothers talking,
walking and interacting with each other without reverting to static
locked off cameras. Several avenues were attempted before a final route
was established. For some scenes, a newly developed light-weight motion
control rig was used instead of the more traditional motion control rig -
which was deemed to cumbersome to operate on the fast-paced shoot.
Furthermore a tripod mounted motorised camera-head was used on quite a
few takes, allowing the DOP Jonas Alarik to do tripod moves and focus
pulls in perfect sync between two takes. This approach was fairly unique
in this genre - where static shots and body doubles are more
traditionally used throughout the film.
The cast also included Tuva
Novotny, Vanna Rosenberg Synnerholm, Jessica Zandén and Johan Rabaeus. Bröderna Karlsson premiered 30th July 2010.
